Chapter 12

“W hat…?” Noah said blankly, vaguely noticing the same vacant look on Layla’s face that he was sporting himself.

“You both will be Guardians,” Simmy said in response to Noah and Layla’s blank stares. “Together.”

“But… I thought you were only looking for one Guardian,” Layla retorted back to her Aunt.

“Garvan is too powerful right now for you to succeed on your own, Layla,” replied Simmy. “Originally I was going to be fighting with you, but I need to go back to the Realm and face Garvan by myself. The two of you will follow me once you’re ready.”

Noah and Layla turned to each other.

“The two of you will have to train extremely hard to make this work,” Zion’s deep voice rang in Noah’s ears. “Especially because you will now have to become completely in sync.”

Zion held up the mandala he had just fused and watched the sunstones shine at his gaze.

“This is an extremely powerful relic,” he said. “And it will take nothing less than the purest intentions to work.”

Noah hesitated for just a second… “Layla’s a lot stronger than I am,” he said to Simmy and Zion. “The time it’s taken for her to get to the level she’s at has been years of training! We don’t have enough time to train me as well!”

“Layla’s power will amplify your own,” Simmy replied to him. “You have a natural ability, being Nora’s twin. You will need some training in control, but your powers are linked. Your training will take a significantly shorter amount of time.”

“We can work together,” Layla said confidently, nodding in Noah’s direction.

A fire burned in the pit of Noah’s stomach. Becoming a Guardian meant that he would be able to find out exactly what happened to Nora!

He nodded back at Layla.

“It’s going to take a lot of hard work,” Simmy said, looking at the two of them, “and I won’t be here to train you the whole time.”

“I know,” replied Noah, “but I’ve been working with you for months now. And if our powers are linked because of the mandala now—”

“We will make this work,” Layla insisted.

Zion chuckled behind Simmy. “I don’t think we need to worry about these two,” he said to her.

“No,” Simmy agreed.

“I have transferred some of my power into your mandala,” Zion said again, “but it will only work if you are truly ready. Knowing that you have the power, but not believing in yourself isn’t going to work. You need to know you have the power, and believe in not only yourself, but the people who are on this journey with you as well. It is a major mental battle that will affect not only you, but also those around you. The hardest thing that the two of you will encounter on this journey is making sure that you keep each other accountable for both your mindsets and actions.”

“You’re both going to need to meditate together, make sure the other one is eating right, drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, and that your minds are strong.
